COVID UPDATE 9-20-2021

Dear Staff and Families of North Bend School District, 

As we continue to navigate through this ever-changing pandemic, we want to keep our community up to date with how this is affecting our schools.  Since our update last Monday,  we have had several students at North Bend High School test positive for COVID.  Hillcrest Elementary has experienced some cases that have resulted in the closure of a 1st grade classroom.  All of our schools have been affected with positive cases and quarantines to some degree over the last week.  While state reports are showing a decline in positive cases, our district is not out of the woods yet.

At this time, none of the positive cases can be linked back to classroom transmission.  The cases we are seeing have been from community spread or extra-curricular activities.  We attribute this to our policies and protocols of consistent handwashing, sanitizing, social distancing and wearing masks.

We have seen several districts in our state making the difficult decision to discontinue in-person learning due to large outbreaks.  We are still hopeful that we can avoid this in our district.  We are asking for the community’s help to continue to remain diligent for the sake of our students and staff. 

As a reminder, the Oregon Department of Education has released the following five tips:

  1. Make a plan to vaccinate all eligible household members

  2. Wear a face covering in public and in carpools

  3. Limit gatherings with other households

  4. Move any social activities outside

  5. Make a plan in case your child needs to miss school
